Bakersfield refinery closure raises supply issues
One question the planned closure of the Shell Bakersfield Refinery poses is how the company will make up for the loss in gasoline and diesel. The refinery on Rosedale Highway generates about 20,000 barrels of gasoline and 15,000 barrels of diesel per day.... (Bakersfield California, Feb 26, 2004 -- viewing requires free registration)

Finding professional engineers online
If you need to find a Professional Engineer in your city, check license status or just trying to find a long lost friend, check the California state website. The site allows for searching by name, city and other parameters. Getting there is not that easy.

Direct link -- Go to the Calif Dept of Consumer Affairs look-up page. Then scroll down to "Engineers and Land Surveyors" and click on "Professional Engineers." From there, you can search by name, license number, city or county.

Alternate method -- In case the above link changes, here is how to find it again... First go to www.ebizcenter.ca.gov. Then, under "Online Services," click on "Professional Licensing". Mid-way down the page look for "Check the status of licensed professionals", and click on "Dept of Consumer Affairs". Under "Engineers and Land Surveyors", click on "Professional Engineers".

New environmental bills signed into law
On September 22, Gov. Gray Davis signed several bills into law affecting environmental regulation in California. They include (1) phasing out the federal agricultural burning exemption; (2) providing $6 million to San Joaquin Valley biomass plants to encourage burning more agricultural waste for conversion into energy; and (3) requiring emissions monitoring of all stationary agricultural pumps. Some programs will be funded by the State but most will be paid for by new local fees to be imposed on the regulated entities and by still more vehicle registration fees. These bills were introduced by Assemblyman Reyes and Senators Flores and Sher and the text is available online at www.leginfo.ca.gov/bilinfo.html. Bills include AB 170, Senate Bills 288, 704, 705 and 709:

- Assy Bill 170
- Senate Bill 704 --
- Senate Bill 705 --
- Senate Bill 709
